Ikwerre Local Government Authority has banned the activities of cart pushers and scavengers across the council area, accusing them of being responsible for theft and other criminal acts within communities.
Chairman of the Council, Charles Wobodo, announced the ban while inaugurating newly appointed political aides at the Council Secretariat in Isiokpo. He warned that anyone who violates the directive will face serious consequences.
Wobodo also assured residents that relief is underway for parts of the area that have been without electricity for over four years. He said the “Light Up Ikwerre Project” will be executed in phases to restore power, revive businesses and stimulate economic activities. The Chairman urged communities to safeguard public infrastructure and report acts of vandalism, stressing that offenders will be dealt with decisively.
In addition, the Council plans to engage 300 youths under a Community Social Work Programme, providing employment opportunities across various communities in the LGA.
