The Executive Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Hon. Charles Wobodo, has called on Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order an investigation into the reported shooting in Omuanwa.
Wobodo made the call while addressing journalists in Omuanwa, following an incident he alleged involved security personnel accompanying former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, during a visit to his hometown, Ubima, on March 6, 2026.
According to the council chairman, the incident occurred when Amaechi’s convoy was passing through Omuanwa on its way to Ubima. Wobodo alleged that security personnel in the convoy opened fire upon sighting local vigilante members stationed in the community to protect lives and property.
He further claimed that the security operatives also damaged vehicles belonging to the vigilante group.
Wobodo, who said he was in Omuanwa at the time to attend the burial of a community member, denied claims that Amaechi’s convoy was attacked or obstructed by hoodlums.
“The vigilante members never stopped anybody. It is a story cooked up by Amaechi and his people. They never stopped any vehicle, let alone a convoy,” he said.
The chairman also dismissed reports that the secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ubima was burnt. According to him, no such incident occurred, adding that the party was currently facing internal issues at the local level.
Wobodo accused the former minister of rushing to the media with claims of being attacked in order to gain public sympathy.
He also alleged that a second round of shooting occurred at the same location when Amaechi’s convoy was returning from Ubima.
The council chairman said relevant security agencies were immediately informed after the incident and urged the federal government to conduct a thorough investigation to establish the facts surrounding the shooting.
