A coalition of Ijaw leaders and civil society groups has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of orchestrating a constitutional subversion in Rivers State to maintain political control by proxy.
Operating under the Coalition of Ijaw Interest Groups (CIIG), the leaders issued a statement on Wednesday in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, warning of what they described as a dangerous erosion of democratic principles in the state. The group condemned recent political developments, alleging a betrayal of the electorate’s mandate and a prioritization of personal political interests over democratic governance.
The statement was endorsed by prominent figures including Ben Okoro, Efiye Bribena, Chief Denzil Kentebe, Iniruo Wills, Elaye Otrofanowei, Tare Ekpebu, Pattison Boleigha, Annkio Briggs, Rosemary John-Oduone, Ebitim Egbunukumoh, and Yimovie Sakue-Collins.
