The Igwuruta Community Youths have issued a communiqué expressing grief and anger over the killing of a youth leader, Nchelem Samuel Festus, and calling for urgent security intervention in the area.
In the statement dated February 12, 2026, the youths said Festus, who served as Secretary of the Omuolu-Omunwei Community in Igwuruta, was killed on February 10. They alleged that the attack was carried out by commercial motorcycle riders and linked the incident to what they described as rising cases of violent crime in the community.
The group said Igwuruta has historically been peaceful and accommodating but warned that recent incidents have created fear among residents and disrupted normal activities.
As part of their resolutions, the youths called for the immediate suspension of motorcycle operations by the accused group within Igwuruta, as well as the closure of scrap dump sites allegedly operated by them. They also demanded the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the killing and other reported crimes.
In addition, the communiqué urged cattle herders to stay away from community farmlands and bushes, citing safety concerns.
The youths stated that they remain committed to lawful conduct and would not take matters into their own hands, but urged security agencies and local authorities to act on their demands within 48 hours. They called on relevant stakeholders to intervene promptly to restore peace and order in the community

This is a welcome development
