The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced that 11,566 police personnel withdrawn from VIP security assignments have now been redeployed to strengthen general security operations across the country.
Egbetokun disclosed this while briefing journalists on the implementation of the President’s directive ordering the withdrawal of police officers attached to VIPs. He said the move would boost manpower for rural and urban security coverage, enhance population protection, and support intensified patrols, intelligence-driven operations, and rapid response to emerging threats.
According to him, the decision was not influenced by emotions or politics but by the urgent need to redirect police resources to critical areas where national safety concerns are highest.
