The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has acknowledged receiving a petition seeking the probe of retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, former Sole Administrator of Rivers State, over his management of state funds while in office.
The petition, filed by lawyer and human rights activist Deji Adeyanju, was submitted shortly after Ibas completed his tenure on September 18, 2025. ICPC spokesperson, Demola Bakare, confirmed the development on Thursday in Abuja, noting that the petition has been forwarded to the commission’s legal department for review.
Adeyanju urged the ICPC to scrutinize all financial activities under Ibas’s administration from March 18 to September 17, 2025. He cited official data from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation indicating that Rivers State received about N283.3 billion during the period, excluding internally generated revenue.
According to him, the funds comprised N36.6 billion in local government allocations for January and February that were previously withheld, and approximately N246.7 billion as state and local government allocations between March and June. Despite these inflows, Adeyanju alleged there was little evidence of tangible development under Ibas’s administration.
