The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok Ibas, has tasked the newly inaugurated chairman and members of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) with the responsibility of conducting free, fair, and credible local government elections.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at Government House, Port Harcourt, Ibas emphasized the critical role of the electoral body in restoring public confidence in the democratic process at the grassroots level.
He charged the commission to uphold transparency and impartiality, warning against bias, favouritism, and external interference.
“The independence of your actions is crucial to sustaining peace, stability, and grassroots governance,” Ibas said. “You must act with fairness, impartiality, and professionalism—even in the face of difficult choices.”
The inauguration marks a significant step toward the state’s preparation for upcoming local government polls.
