PORT HARCOURT – The Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok Ete Ekwe Ibas, has called on heads of paramilitary organizations to collaborate with other security agencies to enhance safety and peace in the state.
Speaking at a meeting with security officials at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Vice Admiral Ibas stressed the critical role of paramilitary agencies in combating crime. He warned that sustainable development and economic progress are unattainable in an environment plagued by lawlessness.
Ibas emphasized the need for intelligence sharing, community dialogue, and proactive policing to address security threats, including kidnapping, illegal activities, and communal conflicts. He reiterated that restoring law and order in the state is a collective effort and assured the security agencies of government support.
“If we all work together to reduce insecurity to its barest minimum, resources can be redirected to developing other sectors,” he stated.
The Administrator also condemned the presence of unregistered and concealed license plate vehicles on Rivers State roads, labeling them as security risks. He further highlighted the dangers posed by overturned tankers, attributing them to poor vehicle conditions and reckless road use, and called for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent casualties.
In response, the Controller of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS), Rivers State Command, Mr. Felix Madumere, pledged continued support in the fight against crime.
