PORT HARCOURT — The Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok Ete Ekwe Ibas, has called on participants of Senior Course 47 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) to propose viable and actionable solutions to Nigeria’s internal security challenges.
The retired naval chief, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika, made the appeal on Monday during a courtesy visit by the AFCSC delegation to the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Ibas commended the team for choosing Rivers State as part of their study tour and emphasized the relevance of their mission in light of growing threats to life and property. “This study is critical and timely, especially considering the threats to security in the State. Any effort aimed at harnessing grassroots intelligence is vital to achieving effective internal security,” he said.
He urged the participants to treat the tour not just as an academic exercise but as a practical engagement capable of influencing national security strategies. He stressed the importance of credible information and community-level intelligence in protecting lives, infrastructure, and national assets.
Team leader and Director of Logistics at AFCSC, Commodore S.O. Abdularaheen, noted that the Rivers State delegation comprises 56 members — 11 staff and 45 students — and is one of ten teams visiting selected states across the country.
He explained that the study is anchored on the theme “Harnessing Grassroot Intelligence for Enhanced Internal Security” and aims to gather data and recommendations for adoption by relevant security agencies.
The visit is part of the AFCSC’s broader effort to integrate field insights into Nigeria’s evolving internal security framework.
