The Nigerian Senate has announced that Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, Sole Administrator of Rivers State, along with other top state officials, will appear before the Joint National Assembly Ad-hoc Committee on the Implementation of Emergency Rule to defend the state’s 2025 budget.
The development follows the emergency rule declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on March 18, which transferred executive powers in Rivers State to the federal government.
Addressing the press on Tuesday, the Senate emphasized its commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of Rivers residents amid the political transition. Lawmakers assured Nigerians that the National Assembly would not allow the emergency rule to disrupt development or deny the people access to constitutionally guaranteed resources.
The Senate reaffirmed its oversight role and stressed that all budgetary allocations would be scrutinized to ensure transparency, accountability, and service delivery during the period of federal administration in the state.
