The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has directed the contractor handling the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex to immediately accelerate construction, citing unacceptable delays.
During an inspection visit to the project site on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, on Friday, Ibas expressed disappointment over the “grossly abysmal” progress of work, saying the pace falls far below expectations.
“From the reports submitted by consultants and what I have seen on ground, the contractor is not working fast enough. This is not acceptable. We must meet our deadlines,” he said.
The Administrator announced plans to summon the contractor for an emergency meeting to address the setbacks and ensure strict adherence to project timelines.
Ibas also visited key sports infrastructure, including the Yakubu Gowon Stadium and the Alfred Diete-Spiff Sports Complex, to assess their condition. He emphasized the importance of modern facilities to support Rivers athletes, especially those competing in continental tournaments.
“It is unacceptable that our teams must leave the state for home matches. We must upgrade our facilities to benefit our athletes and boost local hosting capacity,” he said.
The Rivers State Government said it will intensify efforts to complete the Assembly complex and rejuvenate sports infrastructure as part of a broader commitment to development, accountability, and youth empowerment.
