Former Rivers State Sole Administrator, Ibas, gifted 27 lawmakers brand-new 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser Jeeps shortly before leaving office, activist Chetam Nwala has alleged.
Nwala criticized the lawmakers for accepting the vehicles and later moving to probe Ibas, describing their action as hypocritical. “They did not reject the SUVs. They collected them, yet today they want to investigate the same man whose alleged corrupt practices they benefitted from,” he said.
He further noted that the legislators had supported Ibas’ appointment, endorsed the state of emergency in Rivers, and received their full entitlements, including constituency project funds which he claimed were not executed.
According to him, the Assembly members have no moral justification to lead a probe against Ibas. “If people should call for his probe, which I support, it should not be these lawmakers. This is simply a case of one thief trying to investigate another thief for stealing differently,” Nwala added.
