A former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu lacks the capacity to govern Nigeria.
Amaechi stated that his position was informed by his close working relationship with Tinubu, insisting that his experience shaped his judgment about the President’s leadership abilities.
“The truth is simple. I did not agree with the choice of the presidential candidate. I did not believe he had the capacity to govern Nigeria. And I still do not believe so. What is happening today has only confirmed my position,” Amaechi said.
According to him, remaining in the same political party while holding such a view would amount to dishonesty. He argued that his firsthand experience working closely with Tinubu gave him deeper insight into his leadership style, unlike many Nigerians who may not have had similar access.
Amaechi further accused the President of deviating from democratic ideals, alleging that the current administration is exhibiting autocratic tendencies.
“Tinubu preached democracy, but today, what we are seeing is autocracy. Security agencies are being used to intimidate critics and opposition figures,” he alleged.
The remarks add to the growing political debate over the direction of governance in the country, as tensions continue to rise within opposition and ruling party circles.
