Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has dismissed political mudslinging within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting he would not engage in personal attacks.
Makinde stated this on Thursday while briefing journalists after the South-West PDP zoning consultative summit held in Lagos.
“Personally, when people go low or go into the gutters, I don’t go with them. Some people are now going into the gutters. We will reach out to them. That is democracy,” he said.
The governor stressed that political disagreements should not be personal but focused on what parties offer Nigerians, noting that the public is paying close attention.
Makinde also maintained that the PDP remains a strong political force despite its challenges, citing recent elections where the party placed second in several states.
“In all our states, they showed last Saturday that PDP is not dead. In most other places of the 12 states, PDP came second. It is an indication to us that if we continue to work hard, we can reclaim the confidence of Nigerians,” he said.
On zoning of the PDP presidential ticket to the South, Makinde said the party was not yet at that stage of discussion.
