Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has accused Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, of betrayal, claiming the governor was used by political enemies to fight him.
Speaking during a media chat with journalists on Monday, Wike expressed emotional distress over the fallout, revealing that he often replays past speeches and actions of Fubara in private moments. “When I go back in my quiet moments, I play the video of speeches of the governor, what he said, what he did to me, I weep. Was it necessary?” he said.
The former Rivers State governor lamented that despite being the one who supported and positioned Fubara for leadership, the governor allegedly turned against him. He added that a state of emergency in Rivers was the only measure that prevented Fubara’s outright impeachment.
Wike clarified that he currently has no personal issues with the governor and has not seen him since their last meeting, which included an intervention by other governors aimed at resolving the political crisis in the state.
He stressed that lasting peace cannot be achieved through public declarations alone. “Peace is not achieved by mere words in the media,” he stated.
