Port Harcourt – Hon. Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has claimed he was offered a N5 billion bribe to support the governor’s impeachment while serving as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Ehie made the revelation during an interview on Channels TV, though he did not disclose who allegedly made the offer. He described Governor Fubara as a man of peace and stated that he rejected the bribe upon realizing its purpose.
“The governor is a man of peace. The governor decided to follow the way of conflict resolution. In October, I was approached with N5 billion bribe against the governor but I refused. The bribe was for impeachment, but I turned it down,” he said.
Addressing allegations by former Head of Service George Nwaeke regarding the bombing of the State Assembly, Ehie denied any involvement. He accused Nwaeke of being financially influenced to implicate him in the incident.
Ehie expressed disappointment that Nwaeke, after 35 years of service, could be pressured into making such claims. He alleged that the former HoS was following a script designed to implicate both him and the governor in the state’s ongoing political crisis.
