The Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has condemned Thursday’s attack on the supporters of Rivers APC Guber Candidate, Tonye Cole in PHALGA.
Reacting to the incident, Atiku says violence and anti-democratic acts are not permissible in our electoral process.
“We had complained about the violence that had been visited on our party in some states because we did not want it to become a pattern if those engaged in anti-democratic activities were not brought to book.” he said.
Atiku said election is not a do or die affair but an opportunity to reinforce democracy and it is done by ballot not bullet. He sympathize with those injured and wish them quick recovery while pledging solidarity with the Rivers APC.
“On behalf of my team, I stand in solidarity with the APC and the families of the injured. I wish the injured a quick recovery.” he said.
He called on security agencies to investigate and bring the perpetrators of the act to book.
“Once again, I call on security agencies to ensure that those behind this dastardly act, including their promoters, are brought to justice to serve as a deterrent to copycats who may be emboldened to thread this same anti-democratic path”
Recall on Thursday the APC governorship campaign train which berthed in Rumuwoji, Port Harcourt Local Government Area was attacked by some unidentified miscreants with the police and APC giving conflicting account of the incidence.
