Renowned Nigerian rapper Jude Abaga, popularly known as M.I Abaga has expressed regret over his decision to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2015 general elections.
Speaking during a recent episode of the Menism podcast, the award-winning artist said his endorsement of the APC at the time stemmed from his belief that the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was riddled with corruption. However, he admitted that the APC has failed to live up to the ideals he hoped for.
“Yes, I supported APC because at that time, I felt that the PDP government was very corrupt,” M.I said. “I was part of the people who lifted my voice to say, ‘Let us stand and bring in democracy.’”
He added that, in hindsight, the APC has fallen short of his expectations, stating, “Unfortunately, this isn’t the APC of my dreams.”
The rapper made the comments while addressing criticism he received on social media following his reaction to recent herdsmen attacks in Benue State. Many users were quick to remind him of his past political stance.
Reflecting on the backlash, he said, “As a human being, no matter how much you try to be right, you will be wrong sometimes.”
