Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed regret over his involvement in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014, lamenting that Nigeria’s condition has deteriorated under the current administration.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Atiku recalled how opposition leaders united in 2014 to establish the APC, citing concerns that democracy was under threat during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to him, the coalition was formed to confront pressing national issues at the time, particularly insecurity and economic instability. However, he noted that the country’s present challenges have gone beyond what was experienced then.
“We came together in 2014 because we believed democracy was faltering, but we have found ourselves in an even worse situation,” he said.
Atiku maintained that the current state of insecurity and the economy has surpassed the concerns that initially led to the APC’s formation.
He urged political actors to learn from past mistakes, stressing that any future coalition must be genuinely committed to restoring what he described as true democracy in Nigeria.
