Grammy-nominated gospel artiste Afy Douglas has opened up about the personal turmoil that inspired his global hit, Savior, revealing he was on the verge of losing his marriage and had suffered significant financial loss at the time.
Douglas made the disclosure during an appearance on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, where he recounted how the collapse of the notorious Ponzi scheme, MMM, wiped out his investments, leaving him emotionally and financially devastated.
“It was the worst season of my life,” Douglas said. “I had lost everything in MMM and was at the brink of losing my marriage.”
According to the singer, he was invited to minister at an event during that difficult period but was uncertain about what to sing or say. In a moment of despair and worship, he began to sing spontaneously—what would eventually become the globally acclaimed track Savior.
The song has since resonated with millions worldwide, becoming a symbol of hope birthed from adversity.
