A member of the Rivers State House of Assembly representing Obio/Akpor Constituency II, Hon. Emilia Amadi, has announced her withdrawal from the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Amadi made the disclosure during a press briefing in Port Harcourt alongside her colleague, Hon. Barile Nwokah, who represents Khana Constituency I.
“I informed Wike before taking the decision,” Amadi said, referring to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. According to her, Wike advised her to act according to her conscience, while reiterating his status as the political leader of Rivers State.
The lawmaker called on Governor Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, to act in line with constitutional provisions and to desist from actions that run contrary to the Constitution.
She also appealed to her colleagues in the House of Assembly to withdraw from the impeachment process and embrace a political solution to resolve the lingering crisis in the state.
Her appeal comes less than 48 hours after two other lawmakers, Hon. Sylvanus Nwankwo and Hon. Peter Abbey, urged the House to halt the impeachment proceedings against the governor.
