Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims of a rift between him and the Nigerian military over a disputed piece of land in Abuja, insisting that he holds deep respect for the armed forces.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Wike said his administration’s actions were guided strictly by law and not by emotion or personal interest.
“I have respect for the military and will continue to respect them. Anyone trying to create the impression that I’m in conflict with the military is wrong. I have no problem with them and will not have one,” he said.
The Minister explained that in the event of any misunderstanding, he has access to top military authorities and the Presidency to address such issues amicably.
Wike accused some individuals of exaggerating the incident involving his officials and military personnel, saying it was being used to falsely portray him as being at loggerheads with the military.
He maintained that his actions were lawful and aimed at protecting government officials carrying out their legitimate duties.
