Former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of halting a youth employment initiative he started during his tenure, describing the action as a setback for young people in the state.
Speaking during a thank-you visit to Ahoada East Local Government Area, Wike said the program, which aimed to employ 10,000 youths across Rivers State, was designed to tackle unemployment and provide economic opportunities for young people.
“I employed 10,000 youths, but the Governor cancelled it, despite my advice to continue from where I stopped,” Wike said.
He described the cancellation as unfortunate, emphasizing that it undermines progress made for the youth.
The FCT Minister also reiterated the importance of continuity in government initiatives, noting that projects started by one administration should be carried forward for the benefit of the people, regardless of political differences.
Wike also defended his political decisions, including his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing them as grounded in principle and aimed at ensuring stability and progress.
Political supporters at the event praised Wike for his developmental initiatives, pointing to the employment program as one of his most impactful projects.
