ABUJA — Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, has revealed that he directed the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to employ 1,000 northerners during his tenure in office.
Amaechi, who served under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, made the disclosure at an event held in Abuja. According to him, the move was aimed at addressing regional disparities in the agency’s staffing.
“When I became Minister of Transportation, the South-South and South-East had the highest number of employees in NIMASA,” Amaechi said. “I called the DG of NIMASA and asked him to employ 1,000 northerners. I took northerners to China.”
Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State, did not specify whether the recruitment followed due process or if the directive was implemented.
