The Chairman of Etche Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Elvis Obinna Anyanwu JP, says he has carried out projects in 15 out of the 19 wards of the council, which has never happened in the history of the LGA.
Dr. Elvis, in an interview with Elanhub, at his residence on Wednesday, revealed that he promised to carryout projects in all the 19 wards of the council.
He explained that his administration has constructed one of the biggest markets in the state, in Etche land, and that by the end of next year he should be done with projects.
The outspoken council boss, also said that his projects are based on the yearnings of the people and not based on what he wants. He said the markets, schools and health centres constructed so far, were what the people needed and requested for.
“I don’t just wake up and do projects, I ask the people what they want, they tell me and i deliver. All the markets, schools and health centres are what the people want,” he said.
He explained that the Etche people are happy with his administration due to his numerous achievements in all sectors, and promised to give them the best, adding that he is a “servant leader” who serves everybody irrespective of party affiliation.
He also said one of the most important thing is giving his people attention and not necessarily money. He noted that as long as people respect themselves, and are ready to work with the system, he is ready to work with them.
“I am a 100 percent party man because it was the party that brought me to power. I am a servant leader, who serves everybody irrespective of party affiliation. As long as you respect the system, I will work with you,” he said.
“I have a name at stake to keep. I must give my people the best. The most important thing is giving them attention not money. If you call me and I miss it, I will call you back. I am not a 419 person. I am not owing anybody, so why should I not pick my phone.
“Some might be in a position where they need your attention and not money,” he added.
On the issue of security: The council boss said, Etche was known for incessant killings and kidnappings. But, today his administration has restored peace in the area.
He said the peace enjoyed in Etche today, was due to God’s divine intervention and not his own making.
“I woke up one day and asked God what to do and he directed me. I never used to sleep… Due to the killings and kidnappings in Etche,” he said.
He said a security meeting was held and they came up with a solution of establishing a local vigilante group that will work with the police. And since then the council has been relatively peaceful.
