The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has raised concern after a ground water tank ruptured at one of its project sites in Ebubu community, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The incident, which occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, has deepened public anxiety over the quality and structural integrity of recently completed water and environmental projects across Ogoni communities.
The latest failure comes just weeks after a water station in Gwara community, Khana LGA, collapsed shortly after being commissioned by the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal.
Clarifying the situation, HYPREP stated that the structure in Ebubu did not collapse but suffered a rupture.
Project Coordinator, Prof. Nenibarini Zabbey, has since constituted a high-level committee to assess the site and conduct a thorough investigation into both the immediate and remote causes of the incident.
