The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has announced plans for a joint effort with the Senate to establish a high-level reconciliation committee aimed at fostering dialogue, promoting peace, and restoring democratic order in Rivers State and other regions affected by political unrest.
Speaking at the House’s resumed plenary session on Monday, following the Ramadan and Easter recess, Tajudeen confirmed the lower chamber’s endorsement of the President’s proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State. He said the decision was taken in line with Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
“We demonstrated unwavering fidelity to the Constitution in our swift response to the political unrest in Rivers State,” the Speaker said, reaffirming the House’s commitment to constitutional order and national stability.
