Nigeria’s Federal House of Representatives has called on the federal government not to cancel the 2020 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the country.
Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, Chairman of the House Committee on Basic Education and Services made this known on behalf of the House yesterday, Friday July 10 2020, in Abuja.
He said the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu while making the pronouncements on the cancellation of the exam did not inform the country if the position was in agreement with the examination body and other relevant agencies.
“Nigeria is not the only country expected to write the examination in the midst of COVID-19; Nigeria should insist that the examination be based exclusively on the already covered syllabus of schools,” he stated.
Prof. Ihonvbere said the committee was amazed at the announcement by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu where he stated that Nigerian students would not be participating in the 2020 WASSCE. He called on the FG to allow Nigerian students partake in the exam in line with COVID-19, protocols.
