A Port Harcourt resident identified as Seigha Adedeji Edwin on Facebook has raised an alarm over the high level of homeless children in Port Harcourt.
Edwin, who shared a picture of some homeless kids at the PH Township axis in a post, said they have been roaming the streets for over a month.
His statement reads,
I feel so heartbroken whenever I see these children roaming the streets of Port Harcourt township for like a month now and from my findings, they usually do not have a permanent place to sleep or stay.
As you can see they are vulnerable. They face difficulties while living on the streets, and they have started developing ways to overcome such difficulties.
Difficulties such as providing themselves with good sources of food, clean drinking water, health care services, toilets, bath facilities, and adequate shelter. They also suffer from the absence of parental protection and security due to the missing connection with their families.
As for culture, morals, and traditions, I don’t think they are concerned about culture and morals, owing to being away from their family.
Go to Suyaline at night and find some other children sleeping in the streets or on pavements near shops or tables.
If not for economic stress and poor conditions that families face in this part of the world, most of these issues would have been controlled properly.
Please let’s share for it to get to the appropriate authority so these children can leave the streets.
