Riyom, Plateau State – At least 20 people were killed on Monday night when gunmen suspected to be Fulani militias launched a deadly assault on the Bindi community in the Ta-Hoss district of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to a statement by the local chapter of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM), the attackers stormed the village while residents were asleep, carrying out a brutal house-to-house attack. The victims included women, children, and the elderly who were unable to escape.
The statement, jointly signed by COPDEM Chairman, Gideon Manjal, and Publicity Secretary, Gadu Daniel Dong, alleged that the gunmen were heavily armed and appeared intent on wiping out the community and seizing their land.
Several residents sustained injuries, while many others fled the area in search of safety. The Coalition called on security agencies and the government to take immediate action to protect communities and bring the perpetrators to justice.
