The Conscience of Ogoni People (COOP) has formally commenced the process to recall Senator Barinada Mpigi, representing the Rivers South East Senatorial District, citing what it described as his “woeful failure” in representing the interests of constituents.
In a statement signed by Chief Gani Topba, the group’s leader and spokesman, COOP urged residents across the seven local government areas of the district—Khana, Gokana, Eleme, Tai, Oyigbo, Andoni, and Opobo/Nkoro—to support the recall process and work closely with designated coordinators in each LGA.
The group called on youth, women, democrats, and other concerned stakeholders to participate actively in the campaign, which involves gathering signatures from registered voters in accordance with guidelines provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“We must act swiftly. “It is time for the people to reclaim their mandate from an anti-democratic agent who has failed the district,” he said.
Further updates on the recall process are expected to be announced in the coming days.
