Muslim faithful in Rivers State on Friday gathered at the Central Mosque to offer special prayers for peace, unity, and sustainable development, as activities marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day commenced in the state.
Juliana Masi, Head, Information and Public Relations Unit, Office of the Secretary to the State Government said Fubara, used the occasion to express profound appreciation to members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, veterans, and fallen heroes for their invaluable contributions to the nation’s unity, security, and progress.
Represented by Alhaji Abdulrasaq Diepriye, the Governor described the sacrifices of military personnel and veterans as heroic and enduring, emphasizing that their commitment to national unity and stability deserves continuous recognition and honor.
“The Rivers State Government will always acknowledge and appreciate the courage, patriotism, and selfless service demonstrated by members of the Armed Forces in defending the sovereignty of Nigeria,” the Governor said. “We must continue to commend the values, sacrifices, and unity displayed by our veterans and serving military officers.
We thank you for your gallantry, sacrifices, love, and dedication, which have helped to keep our nation united.”
Earlier, the Chief Imam of the Rivers State Central Mosque, Imam Ibrahim Yaloo, urged Muslim faithful to remain steadfast in prayers for the nation and its security forces, encouraging them to continue promoting peace and good works in society.
The week-long activities to commemorate the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day include a Humanitarian Outreach/Family and Community Day on Saturday, January 10, at Government House, and an interdenominational church thanksgiving service on Sunday, January 11, at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt. The celebrations will conclude with the Wreath-Laying and Parade Ceremony on Thursday, January 15, at the Isaac Boro Park Cenotaph, Port Harcourt.
