Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed deep shock and sadness over the death of Ms. Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a 29-year-old lawyer and journalist with ARISE News Television, who was killed during a robbery attack at her residence in Katampe, Abuja, on Monday, September 29, 2025.
In a condolence message issued on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Governor Fubara described the late Somtochukwu as one of the brightest stars Rivers State had given to Nigeria and the world.
The Governor said Maduagwu was not only a brilliant lawyer and journalist but also a symbol of humility, resilience, and hope for the future of Nigerian youths.
“Her voice on ARISE News Television inspired millions, her passion for justice was evident in her legal brilliance, and her persistence in probing for truth reflected her professionalism,” he noted.
Governor Fubara lamented that her death was an unwholesome tragedy for her family, Rivers State, and the entire country. He, however, expressed solace in the assurance that the Federal Government had directed security agencies to ensure justice is served.
On behalf of his family, the government, and the people of Rivers State, the Governor extended condolences to the Maduagwu family, the ARISE News family, and all who were touched by her life and work.
“May her soul rest in perfect peace,” he prayed
