Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has announced his intention to ensure schools known for producing prominent personalities in the state to remain relevant. The governor also stated that the state seeks to retain the name of such prestigious institutions.
Nyesom Wike made this disclosure after an inspection tour of Enitonia High and Government Comprehensive Secondary Schools.
He said “I feel so sad that these schools are in such bad state. They are schools that have made the state proud. I don’t know why government will believe and continue to build new schools instead of putting the old schools in a position where they can be very conducive for students.”
Wike wondered why the former administration had to build schools very far away from where people reside, describing it as a waste of tax payers money as the old schools would have been rehabilitated.
He confirmed that schools which have so far been taken over by missionaries will also be rehabilitated, noting that if proper attention had been given to these institutions, they would have continued to produce renowned personalities as in the past to the benefit of the state and the country at large.
