Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has assured the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies of the continued support of the State government in their mandate of protecting life and property.
Governor Wike gave the assurance Friday during the Juma’at special prayer held at the Central Mosque, NNS Pathfinder, Rumuolumeni in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area as part of events marking 2021 Nigerian Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.
The Governor who was represented by his Special Assistant on Schools Sports, Chief Aribitonye Mohammed Okiri, recalled that just recently the state government redeemed its pledge of N170 Million to ex-service men in the state.
He urged the public to also support the families of the country’s war heroes who paid the supreme price in the course of protecting the nation.
The governor who expressed satisfaction with the way the officers observed COVID-19 protocols during the service, said if every other sections of the society maintain COVID-19 protocols, the spread of the virus will be minimised.
Earlier, the Imam of NNS Pathfinder Central Mosque, Lt Commodore Dauda Abdulhameed, urged the Muslims to live a life of contentment.
” You must have the spirit of contentment. Allah is the repository of all acquisition. Be grateful with what Allah has given to you. Try as much as possible to maintain peace. Use what you have to help others. Don’t be a bandit, don’t be a war monger. Don’t kidnap, don’t be part of Boko Haram”, he said.
The Sole Administrator , Rivers State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Abdurrazaq Diepriye, commended the members of the Armed Forces for a well organised event.
” As we leave here, we should always remember those who died for us, for their bravery and patriotism to the nation”.
The Chief Imam, 6th Division of Nigerian Army, Col Muktar Adamu, prayed for the protection of the country, the soldiers fighting day and night to defend the nation as well as the Government of the day.
