Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has announced that schools, markets and other public places in the state must be decontaminated before they are allowed to reopen.

The governor made this known during the inauguration of the newly constituted state decontamination team at Government House Port Harcourt Today. He urged the team
to be thorough in the discharge of their duties, in line with the laws of the land.

Gov. Wike stated that the reason why markets and other public places remain closed in the state is because they have not been decontaminated. He also asserted that his administration is committed to curbing the spread of the pandemic in the state.

The governor reiterated the need for public institutions to obey the COVID-19 protocols as government will not fail to shutdown any institution found wanting. He urged residents not to panic due to the increase of index cases in the state. Residents should continue to practice safe respiratory hygiene while obeying the directives of the government, he said.
