Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has called for stronger collaboration between his administration and the Nigerian Army to combat pipeline vandalism and economic sabotage in the state.
Speaking on Wednesday, February 18, 2025, during a courtesy visit by the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, at Government House, Port Harcourt, Fubara urged the military to seek government support when necessary.
He stressed the growing complexity of governance due to security threats, particularly pipeline destruction and community unrest in oil-producing areas. As a key contributor to the nation’s economy, Rivers State requires heightened protection of its critical infrastructure, he said.
The governor expressed displeasure that his predecessor in the role operated without engaging with the state government and assured Major General Emekah of his administration’s full support.
In response, the GOC acknowledged the military’s duty to secure national infrastructure in Rivers State.
