The Rivers State Government has opened the 2025 Christmas Discount Market at the Elekahia Stadium, offering residents access to essential goods at reduced prices amid high inflation and rising living costs.
The fair, organised by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in partnership with 4D Global Synergy Nigeria, runs from December 5 to 15. Traders have stocked their stalls with food items, clothing and household goods, with officials assuring that all vendors were carefully screened to ensure genuine products and real discounts.
To further support affordability, stall fees were subsidised, while logistics and security have been provided throughout the event. According to organisers, the aim is to enable families shop confidently without fear of inflated prices during the festive season.
The market was declared open on behalf of Governor Siminalayi Fubara by the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, who said the initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to easing the cost of living for residents.
Many Port Harcourt residents have welcomed the fair, describing it as a timely intervention during a challenging economic year.
