The Rivers State Government says the Rivers State Independent Electioral Commission, RSIEC, is responsible for the conduct of local government elections and not the state governor.
The state commissioner for Information, Joe Johnson made this known during a chat with journalists Today.
He stated that the state government will not remove council chairmen uncounstitutionally as the constitution allows them to serve for a period of three years.
Recall that Johnson had said that LG elections will hold in the state before the expiration of the tenure of the current chairmen.
