Rivers State Governor, Sir Sim Fubara, says his administration will continue to support security agencies to overcome crime and criminality in the state.
Governor Fubara gave the assurance on Tuesday, when he paid a condolence visit to the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu at the Command’s headquarters over the killing of a Police Inspector, Thankgod O. and another police civilian staff, who were recently killed in the line of duty.
According to Juliana Masi – Head Press Unit, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Fubara who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo said, it is a usual practice for the government to show support and encourage family of the deceased.
“It is a usual practice in Rivers State to stand shoulder to shoulder with law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime and criminality. If anything happens to you, we try to come physically, to share in your pains and show that we are ready to support those left behind and let you know that, your effort is not in vain. Rivers people appreciate your contributions.
“We covey the deep sympathy of the Rivers State Government and the people to you and the families of the gallant officer and support staff who have paid the supreme price.
“We reiterate that the law enforcement agencies are doing well, especially those in Rivers State. We know the efforts you are making to ensure our people sleep with their two eyes closed,” he said.
Speaking to the family, he said, “This token to the widow and children of Inspector Thankgod and the family of police civilian staff is to support you. It is small compared to the prices they have paid. The State Government knows your pain and hopes that the token helps until you stand back on your feet.
“Your fathers and husbands died for a good cause. I know that when your parents die for a worthy cause, God will always stand by you. They did not die for selfish or criminal endeavours. Be encouraged, God will reward you. Now, focus on God and ensure your children grow up with the fear of God and the spirit of hard work. In a short while, you will have reasons to thank God,” he emphasised.
The Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, thanked the Rivers State Governor for the consistent benevolence to officers of the State Police Command.
