National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has disclosed that Nigeria is now receiving increased international backing in its efforts to defeat insurgents and terrorists operating across the country.
Ribadu, who named the United States, France and the United Kingdom among nations currently supporting Nigeria, said the growing global collaboration reflects the world’s resolve to help the country overcome the security challenges it has battled for nearly two decades.
He spoke on Monday in Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, where he led a Federal Government delegation on a sympathy visit to the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, The Very Reverend Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, and parents of students of St. Mary Catholic Nursery, Primary and Secondary School.
The visit followed the recent kidnap of students and teachers from the school.
“Many good people from all over the world are coming to support us, including the United States of America,” Ribadu said. “We appreciate everyone, especially the European countries like France, United Kingdom and a couple of others.”
He stressed that “the whole world is coming together to stop and defeat this evil which has been going on in Nigeria for two decades,” expressing confidence that the nation will prevail.
Ribadu also conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s concern over the incident, noting that the president was “distressed and disturbed” by the abductions and had canceled some official engagements to address the situation.
“Mr. President said I should thank you, Bishop Yohanna, for your understanding, patience and for giving us the right information and standing by us. We are one,” he said.
