A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has cautioned party leaders to refrain from making disparaging remarks about governors elected on the platform of the party.
Basiru gave the warning while reacting to comments attributed to the National Vice Chairman of the APC, South-South Zone, Victor Giadom, over remarks made about the governor of Rivers State.
Expressing displeasure, Basiru described the comments as unfortunate and unbecoming of a senior party official.
“I find it unfortunate that a member of the NWC, who is the Vice Chairman of the South-South zone of the APC, was referring to a governor in our party as a ‘so-called governor of Rivers State’,” he said.
According to him, regardless of personal loyalties or political alignments, such language should not be used by someone occupying a sensitive position within the party.
“No matter what his allegiances are to anybody, it is unbecoming of somebody holding such a sensitive position, and it should not be encouraged by anybody,” Basiru added.
He stressed the need for party leaders to exercise restraint and promote unity, warning that public disparagement of elected officials could undermine cohesion within the APC.
