Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, in Rivers State, Susan Senekara-Nwikhana has called for stiffer penalties against gender based violence offenders.
Mrs. Susan made the call in a statement on Friday.
Her statement reads,
Good morning my family.
Why is Gender-Based Violence and child molestation so much on the increase now?
Last Month the news of a 15-year old girl contemplating on commiting suicide got to NAWOJ Rivers State table, NAWOJ immediately rushed to their residence at Rumuoahollu, professionally handled the case and today she is very happy with herself and NAWOJ prompt intervention to have reunite her with her caregiver.
Then just yesterday, this 13 year old boy is a house help to a family he is going through hell in the hands of that family.
Two days ago the news of his uncle beating him with MATCHET got to NAWOJ, Rivers State table and immediately we swing into action.
The question is what becomes the fate of this boy in the future if he continued to live with a substantiate uncle?
Thank God for the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, who has given a home and hope to these ones, until they would be reunited back to their family.
Please our leaders stiffer penalty should be placed on offenders, those perpetrating this evil so as to reduce it if not completely putting an end to it.
Details on how NAWOJ reunite him to his family later.
