Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Hon. Darlington Nwauju in a statement said the incident shows that the PDP has no respect for the rights of humans.
He called on the state commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday to investigate, arrest and prosecute attackers of Mr Wilson to serve as deterrent to others.
His statement reads,
The APC condemns in very unequivocal terms, the violent assault on Mr Wilson Ibim, a radio journalist working with the state-owned Radio Rivers station, whose fundamental human rights was breached by members of the GDI/PDP while he was carrying out his lawful duties at the GDI/PDP rally yesterday.
We want to state that democracy has no place for violence and dehumanisation of members of the fourth estate of the realm in full public glare, is a pointer to the fact that the PDP has no respect for the rights of humans.
We call on the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State command, CP Friday Eboka, to swiftly investigate, arrest and prosecute the attacker(s) of Mr Wilson Ibim to serve as deterrent to all purveyors of violence in the politics of Rivers State.
Rivers APC assures the people of the state that an APC government under Pastor (Architect) Tonye Cole, shall prioritize the welfare of civil servants and indeed all that live and do business in our state. We shall respect and protect human and people’s rights and shall never deploy state resources to frivolous use or resort to sponsorship of violence as state policy.
