Members of the Rivers Caucus in the National Assembly visited the Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday, expressing support for Sim Amaewhule amid political tensions.
Caucus Leader Rt. Hon. Dunamene Dekor criticized alleged misinformation surrounding the Assembly and accused Governor Siminialayi Fubara of using media strategists to misinterpret court rulings. He also condemned Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, for allegedly distorting legal interpretations to back the governor.
The Caucus affirmed that Amaewhule’s position as Speaker is settled by the Supreme Court’s ruling, warning that recognizing any other authority would defy the court’s decision. They urged Governor Fubara to comply with the Court of Appeal’s judgment affirming Amaewhule’s leadership.
In response, Amaewhule pledged to uphold democratic values and criticized Governor Fubara for alleged misuse of state funds.
