There are strong indications that Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has forwarded a list of commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
Sources familiar with the development said the list was reportedly sent to the Speaker of the Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, on Friday—less than 24 hours after the governor dissolved the State Executive Council and dismissed all Special Advisers.
The move follows recent political and legal developments surrounding the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly, which had been recognised by a Supreme Court judgment.
Until the cabinet dissolution, the governor was said to be working with eight commissioners whose positions were unaffected by the ruling.
According to PUNCH, a government aide, who spoke anonymously, said the Assembly is expected to begin the screening process once the Speaker formally invites the nominees.
The source added that, in a bid to promote reconciliation, the list may include individuals linked to the camp of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, while some former commissioners considered to have performed well could also be reappointed.
