Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara has received the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up to investigate wanton destruction of properties at various Local Government Council Secretariats across the State.
Fubara, received the report during a handover ceremony in Government House, Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
He commended the commission for completing the task, despite threats from some quarters.
According to him, the essence of the inquiry was to investigate the issues that led to the attacks and forestall future occurrence as he vowed to implement the findings.
“Today, I received the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up to investigate the arson, killings and wanton destruction of properties at various Local Government Council Secretariats on October 7, 2024.
I commend His Lordship, Justice I.R. Minakiri and the entire team for their professionalism and commitment to uncovering the truth. The report is a critical step towards ensuring that justice, accountability, and peace are fostered in Rivers State.
As a government, we will act promptly and decisively on the recommendations, release a white paper and ensure that those responsible for the heinous acts face the full weight of the law. Rivers State deserves better and we will not tolerate actions that threaten our collective progress.
Let us all remain committed to building a united, harmonious and prosperous Rivers State,” Fubara said in a statement after the event.
On his part, Chairman of the Panel, His Lordship, Justice I.R. Minakiri said the Panel of Inquiry has opened their eyes to new things, describing the experience as wonderful.
