Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has acknowledged that the Supreme Court judgment on the state’s political crisis granted the President the constitutional authority to declare a state of emergency in the state.
Speaking during a Special Court Session to mark the beginning of a new legal year for the Rivers State Judiciary, Governor Fubara described the judgment as “shocking,” but noted that he had accepted it in good faith.
Recall that prior to his suspension on March 18, the Governor had assured that his administration would fully implement the Supreme Court ruling.
Governor Fubara also reflected on some of his experiences in court during the height of the political crisis, stating that they had strengthened his belief in the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary.
The Governor further pledged to address any injustices the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) might have suffered during the period of emergency rule. He commended the Rivers State Judiciary for its professionalism, describing it as one of the most credible and efficient in the country.
