Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has launched the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem Appeal Fund, announcing a ₦100 million donation by the state government to support the Nigerian Legion.
The donation represents a 100 per cent increase over the amount pledged in 2025, which the governor said was intended to strengthen welfare support for veterans, widows and families of fallen service personnel.
Governor Fubara said the upward review was necessary to respond to the increasing needs of ex-servicemen and women, while also encouraging corporate organisations and well-meaning individuals to contribute more generously to the appeal fund.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Rivers State Government to honouring the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces, describing them as patriots who paid the ultimate price to safeguard the nation’s unity and security.
The launch of the Emblem Appeal Fund officially marks the commencement of activities for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebrations in Rivers State.
