Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reiterated his commitment to completing the reconstruction of the Rivers State House of Assembly (RSHA) complex, assuring that the 2026 budget will be presented in the fully restored legislative chambers.
The governor gave the assurance on Monday during an inspection tour of the project site. He was accompanied by Hon. Boniface Emerengwa, member representing Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency, and received by Senator John Mbata, Chairman of Monier Construction Company Limited—the firm handling the reconstruction.
Governor Fubara described the rehabilitation of the Assembly complex as a key priority for his administration, noting that lawmakers have been operating from an alternative site due to the condition of the permanent chambers.
“We are committed to ensuring that the Assembly returns to its rightful place. By the time we present the 2026 budget, it will be done properly in the hallowed chambers,” he said.
He acknowledged earlier delays but stressed that all issues had been resolved, enabling the government to fast-track work on the project. The governor dismissed claims that his administration had abandoned the site, saying his visit was to personally verify progress and clarify misconceptions.
Expressing satisfaction with the pace of work, Fubara revealed that Monier Construction had subcontracted key interior and external components to Julius Berger Nigeria PLC to ensure timely delivery. He said he was confident that the main chamber would be completed before the end of December.
He added that while some ancillary areas of the complex would be handled separately by the Speaker’s office, the core legislative chambers required for plenary sessions would be ready without delay.
The governor reaffirmed that the restored Assembly complex would be fully functional before the 2026 budget presentation.
